Fascinated by the suburbs • Turin: Ciro Palumbo solo show at TAIT Gallery

Theme of the exhibition: the dialogue with the Mario Sironi paintings of the 1920s

Opens on January 23, 2025 and until April 27 at the TAIT Gallery

“Nothing is lost despite oblivion. Ciro Palumbo, dialogue and confrontation with the suburbs of Mario Sironi”, enhanced by an essay by Roberto Mastroianni.

The collaboration with the young exhibition reality based in Turin sees Palumbo active on several fronts (scheduled exhibitions in New York, Paris, Pisa) while sharing the decisive, enlightened and forward-looking policy of mutual growth.

he enters into assonance with the urban landscapes of Sironi and collects his pictorial heritage

The subject is a planned and studied exhibition that sees the artist enter into direct assonance with one of the great masters of the ‘900: specifically, with the Sironi of the ‘20s, that of the urban landscapes which assimilate in them the emotional impulses of a futurism betrayed by events and those of a society after the Great War in continuous rise but deeply changed in the souls; of the imaginary ideal that the surrealists had set for each of their interventions and, in parallel, of that intellectual revelation which metaphysics had been; but more than anything, it is the Sironi that welcomes in himself the formal rigor of a return to order as confidence to what had already been set in motion.

Palumbo collects his pictorial heritage, recovering that suspended and latent historical dimension that Sironi perceived as real and inevitable and that Palumbo instead makes intimate and directs towards a more personal reading in which the individual alone is called to reflect on the concepts of space (own) and time (eternal).

An equally logical and mysterious painting and, as in a dream, elusive

His silent cities, ideal geometries composed of solid buildings, lit in the shades always dear to the artist, are now immersed in a general atmosphere in which his trees are timidly rare, the artificial light of a window in the distance or that of a very pale sun and out of field that makes the composition spectral.

Spectral but no less attractive, on the limits of the mystical and mysterious, yet never forget the daily life of a thought, reflection or hope that, in his works, is always driven to self-knowledge, that “desire for revenge” inherent in the ideal representations since his beginnings.

he Retrieves the suspended and latent dimension of the master, making it more intimate and personal

Between the dramatic substance of a painting equally logical and mysterious, as formal and rigorous as in a elusive dream, the eye moves in search of an effective planimetry, of an architectural element friend with which to orient, then to let the abandonment of the senses and to wander with the mind inside a universe suspended between the now and the always.
