The Need to go Further - Beatrice Gallori unique creative process

August 16, 2023

She investigates canvas, marble and steel in a crescendo of emotional stresses

At the beginning the ghost of Lucio Fontana appears and with him the clean cut that goes to “surgically” desecrate the canvas to conquer the third dimension. Fontana thus revealed himself, traumatic and transgressive, to many experimenters of the “beyond” in space and of the “beyond” within his own person. A parallel process involved Beatrice Gallori when she faced, investigated and questioned for a long time the canvas and later also the steel and marble through a gesture and a compositional behavior that identify and distinguish her in our artistic scene. Luca Beatrice asked her the reason for the use of other materials, besides the canvas, she replied: “The sensations that the canvas caused me had been a little extinguished. I felt the need to go further. I was curious to see my technique live on other supports: I started working with marble and also steel, which is powerful but at the same time elegant and light”.

STEPS PUNCTUATES THE RHYTHMIC DRIVE ON ELEMENTS THAT SEEM TO BLOOM FROM MARBLE

Therefore, she continues to propose and spread cellular forms that invade the scene in cores, expressing and revealing his particular relationship with space: “When I drill through the surfaces, I create voids, I move towards another dimension”. In this way, a game of oppositions and emotional solicitations has started. This call into question another artist close to her, from the formal point of vBy iew, as Agostino Bonalumi, and further absolute protagonists such as Alberto Burri and Anish Kapoor especially for the unusual use of a changing blue that belongs to her as a continuous, recurrent memory to be handed down to those who observe and must understand it to understand each other. Her works are in fact expressed through a suspension of gestures and thoughts, in an expectation that does not accept the usual measure of things.

FOR HER, THE STEEL IS BOTH POWERFUL, ELEGANT AND LIGHTWEIGHT

Her artworks must be contemplated, absorbed and consumed with this spirit immersed in the mystery: there are no other compatible alternatives. A few examples that summarize this unique and engaging creative process. In the works of the series Under the Surface presented ih her latest solo show at Aria Art gallery, curated by Domenico de Chirico she offers the vision of globular elements in vain held by two frames (or maybe arising from these) in a becoming blocked in the moment, Steps articulates the rhythmic drive of this becoming on harmonic elements that seem to bloom from Carrara marble.

SHE EXPRESSES IN A SUSPENSION OF GESTURES AND THOUGHTS BEYOND THE USUAL MEASURES OF THINGS

And this situation of suspension and proliferation returns to be present in the perforated and extroverted steel of Merge, in the sprouting eruptions that surround and incorporate the red work Cell/Code, in the distilled space cells of the canvas entitled Floating.
And all this continues to manifest itself in an atmosphere of absolute, renewable, cosmic expectation.

He says he was lucky to meet the director who’s been welcoming and publishing his articles for a number of years now.
